The feast opening, at 24.00 at La Constitucion Square, is a very moving ceremony. Hundreds of people sing the Marcha de San Sebastián in tune to the sound of the Gaztelubide gastronomy society, while the mayor hoists the blue and white flag from the Municipal Library.
The next day, the children’s parade goes through the main streets of the city from 12.00, while hundreds of people enjoy the event from the sidewalks.
At night, the flag lowering, at 0.00 hours -the finishing touch of this festivity- gathers less people in a less ceremonial event in charge of the Union Artesana society.
San Sebastian’s Day is a day for recognitions too. Every year, a person or entity is awarded with the Tambor de Oro (Gold Drum) for contributing to the promotion of the city’s tourist charms. On this occasion, the prize will go to the Donosti Cup, a football tournament that every year has the participation of young people from different continents.
