Gipuzkoa : Culture and Tourism
Few regions in the world can lay claim, in such a small area, to possessing anything like the range of landscapes making up Gipuzkoa.
This province, humid and temperate, combines its picturesque coastline and beaches with a mountainous inland region dotted with charming villages. Its beautiful capital, San Sebastian, which stands on the shores of the
Cantabrian Sea and is surrounded by three natural vantage points: Igueldo, Urgull and Ulía, sends many a visitor away with an unforgettable souvenir.
Gipuzkoa's enormous historico-artistic heritage denotes a rich tradition and well-defined culture, both of which are handed down by means of the local language.
Gipuzkoa offers the visitor a wide-ranging
selection of cultural and sports activities.
Different annual competitions bring together outstanding personalities. As well as traditional Vasque sporting events, such as pelota and rowing, other popular pastimes including horse-riding, golf, tennis and cycling can be practised at spacious and modern installations.
An extensive programme of equally important cultural events is organized throughout the year in different parts of Gipuzkoa.
These include the Summer Courses in Miramar Palace, the International Jazz Festival, which takes place in squares, streets and sports centres,
the Musical Fortnight in Victoria Eugenia Theatre and, for lovers of the big screen the International Film Festival of San Sebastian in the month of September.
Basque gastronomy, now highly appreciated in different parts of the world, has earned recognition from distinguished gourmets and holds a regular place in famous international
guide-books. The discovery and enjoyment of. this cuisine is complemented by a selection of excellent hotels: from the most classic to the most modern, including accommodation in
the countryside, at the sea-side and in the mountains.
That's Gipuzkoa, unique in its genre and here to be enjoyed
to the full.
