Gipuzkoa: A Plataform on the Atlantic Axis
Gipuzkoa, the industrial heart of the Basque Country, is located in the
north of Spain. This province, the capital of which is San Sebastian,
holds a strategical and privileged geographical 1ocation with respect
to the rest of Europe: right on the border with France, hinge of
the European Atlantic Axis, it is a way of access to the Mediterranean
Axis, and place of passage towards Portugal and North Africa.
Facing the sea, Gipuzkoa has always been open to the outside and to
commercial relations with other countries. Its men and women,
its companies and its products have travelled round the world.
This international vocation is kept alive by excellent land, sea and air communications: a dense network of roads and motorways, a railway
connection with Europe, several fishing ports, a large commercial port
in Pasajes and an airport.
There are another four important airports
only one hour away by car (Bilbao, Vitoria, Pamplona and Biarritz).
Gipuzkoa's 700,000 inhabitants are closely linked to one another and
to the rest of the world by the most modern of technologies:
telecommunications. Optical fibre cabling reaches the main corners
of the province, thereby guaranteeing immediate connection with
anywhere on the planet.
